MUSICAL DIRECTOR
Steve is a musician who plays a range of brass,
keyboard and percussion instruments and has a lot
of experience as a performer, teacher, arranger
and composer. The Brass band world is not at all
new to him. He has previously played for Crewe Co-OP
Band, Greenway Selectus, Audley Brass and Staffordshire
Police Band. He was previously the musical director
of Baddeley Edge Brass in the early 90’s.
Steve has competed in the Brass Band National Final
on two occasions playing bass Trombone (Back in
the London Days) and was also a professional public
performer at the National Garden Festival (Etruria)
in the mid 80’s.

Steve’s love of music
is such that he left the clerical field of
employment after 13 years service with the
Britannia Building Society to peruse a musical
career. He graduated with a 2:1 degree from
Manchester Metropolitan University and followed
this up by completing his Post Graduate Certificate
of Education whilst lecturing at Stoke on
Trent College.
Steve has built a good reputation as a supply
teacher in Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire
although he has recently decide to make all
his teaching to private pupils and Ceramic
Brass, allowing him to do other regular fulltime
work for N power in Fenton. His home tuition
currently covers piano but is also being expanded
to cover brass lessons too.
Steve is also involved in the musical side
of local theatre productions, most notably
for S and J productions in Cheshire. He has
performed at all the local theatres as a pianist
and trombonist also playing timpani at the
Victoria hall on one occasion.
He is very happy to be directing Ceramic
Brass Band as this presents the opportunity
to provide coaching and to share his passion
for music with a happy team of players.
